TL;DR

Hotel discovery now stretches across Google, social platforms, OTAs and AI assistants. Hotels need accurate structured information, strong reviews, useful destination content and distinctive brand assets wherever people search. Traditional hotel SEO still matters. It is now one part of a much wider discovery process.

"Find me a boutique hotel in London…"

Hotel search used to follow a predictable script. Google. OTA. Tripadvisor. Twenty-seven tabs. Mild panic.

AI search adds another route.Travellers can now ask things like: "Find me a design-led hotel in London near good restaurants, suitable for a romantic weekend, under £400."

That's a very different query from "London hotels." For hospitality brands, AI search for hotels is both a challenge and an opening.

Where Does Hotel Discovery Happen Now?

Everywhere. Google still matters enormously, but travellers also find properties through Instagram, TikTok, maps, OTAs, reviews, creators and AI assistants.

So hotels need to stop treating SEO as a website-only exercise. UKHospitality has warned that AI and social search are already changing hotel visibility, and recommends hotels strengthen structured information, reviews and content built for conversational discovery.

What Information Does AI Actually Need From a Hotel?

Start with the basics. Location, amenities, room types, check-in times, restaurants, facilities and the other essentials should be easy to find and easy to trust across your digital footprint.

Then go deeper. Rather than describing yourself as "perfectly positioned," create useful information about the experience.

What's actually nearby? Who is the hotel right for? What makes the neighbourhood interesting? What can guests build a stay around? Conversational searches carry context. Your content should too.

When doing destination marketing for El Gouna's Turkish Go-To-Market campaign, we used exactly this principle. El Gouna's brand is about the unique Red Sea lifestyle you can only experience there. All of the hotels, F&B venues, and activities are all about cultivating that lifestyle based on the kind of holiday that different guests want to have there. We led with the social, relaxed, and active holiday platform because a potential guest is not going to initially search for "windsurfing in El Gouna", they'll ask ChatGPT "What is the best windsurfing destination close to me".

Why Are Reviews Discovery Content?

Reviews do more than reassure someone already considering you. They're detailed, natural-language descriptions of the experience: service, location, food, atmosphere, rooms and who the place suits. Encourage honest reviews and respond to them properly. Never manufacture them. Trust takes years to build and considerably less time to set on fire.

Does Social Search Matter For Hotels?

Hospitality is unusually visual, so yes. People want to see the rooftop at sunset, breakfast arriving, the view from the balcony and what the street outside actually feels like.

Make content people would use to plan a trip, not an endless feed of perfectly made beds. That social footprint works alongside traditional hotel SEO and AI discovery, not instead of them.

Where Does Brand Fit In?

Being discovered means little if every property looks interchangeable. Distinctive photography, identity, tone of voice and storytelling move travellers from "this fits my criteria" to "I want to stay there."

AI narrows the options. Brand creates the desire.

FAQs

Are people using AI to find hotels?

AI-assisted travel discovery is growing alongside traditional search, OTAs and social platforms, giving travellers another way to research and compare properties.

How can hotels appear in ChatGPT and AI search results?

Hotels can strengthen their AI search visibility by keeping property information accurate across the web, using structured hotel data, earning genuine reviews and publishing clear content about rooms, facilities, location and the surrounding destination. No hotel can guarantee inclusion in a particular AI answer.

What is GEO for hotels?

Hotel GEO applies generative engine optimisation principles to hospitality search. The aim is to make a property's location, facilities, experience and relevance to different traveller needs easier for AI systems to understand and accurately represent.

What content should hotels create for AI search?

Hotel content should answer the detailed questions travellers ask when choosing where to stay. Useful topics include neighbourhood guides, seasonal experiences, transport, restaurants, facilities, room comparisons and advice for particular types of trip.

Is hotel SEO still important?

Yes. Search engines remain central to hotel discovery, and strong website information also supports visibility across the wider search landscape.
